Chiang Mai Teacher's Manual - Back cover

FORRU-CMU's education team "Som" and "Phai" created the Chiang Mai teachers' manual and associated teaching materials with lots of help from Chiang Mai teachers and funded by Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund (KNCF) from Japan. Teachers from "target" schools around Meaung, Mae Rim, Hang Dong district all contributed ideas for the project.

The aim of the manual is to raise awareness of local environmental issues among school children and their teachers and to provide knowledge and skills to children, to enable them to initiate and participate in nature conservation projects. The manual provides not only background knowledge but also skill sets that will enable children to work on projects that contribute towards solutions to some of the worst environmental problem that affect local communities in northern Thailand. There are also 5 nature-trail guides for field trips around Doi Suthep, models to build and games to play!

The manual can be accessed via the FoB on-line learning platform Students can download the modules and take the quiz. If they pass all modules, they can download a certificate of achievement from Chiang Mai University. Teachers can keep track of their students progress and adapt their lessons accordingly.

We have also produced an English-language version for international schools in northern Thailand.

Phai Som

The manual received 3rd prize in the writing category of the Green Globe Institute Awards. Phai and Som (our education officers), who were primary writers and designers of the book, collected the award at a ceremony in Bangkok on July 19th 2023.
