Graduate Scholarships and Small-Grant Support for CMU Student Projects

Small-Grant Support for Student Projects (BSc to PhD levels)

Research on forest restoration doesn't come cheap. In particular, field work involves transportation costs, materials and equipment and hiring helpers. These costs are enough to put off many students from pursuing field-based research for their thesis projects, since usually such costa are not covered by regular student scholarships. Recognizing this problem, FORRU-CMU set up a fund in 2018 to assist CMU students who would like to make use of FORRU-CMU's field plot systems and/or nurseries to carry out their thesis projects. The total amount available each year is around 20-30,000 THB.

How to Apply

Kris
Krishna Rai, former recipient of FORRU small project grant, developed a way to identify  tree species by combining drone imagery with dichotomous keys.

Application time is usually in August but it  varies each year, so please keep an eye on our Facebook page for announcement of the next round. Applications are open to CMU students, undertaking BSc special projects or graduate thesis projects on any aspect of forest restoration. Applicants should submit a 2-3 page proposal via their CMU advisor. The freeform application should cover project objectives and expected outputs, and how the grant would be spent (don't forget to add your contact details). Shortlisted applicants will be called for interview.

Grants can be used to support transportation costs, materials and small equipment items, hiring field assistants etc. Successful applicants are requested to submit a copy of their thesis to FORRU-CMU when completed, for sharing on this website. An account of how the grant was used is due 1 year after the grant is awarded.
